WHAT WE DO
Extension takes the latest research from the University into people’s lives – where they live, work and play. Programming supported by Kittson County involves 4-H Youth Development and Nutrition Education.
4-H Youth Development – Learn by doing
Minnesota 4-H provides opportunities for kids to demonstrate leadership that benefits their communities and reflects the principles of democracy. Youth have fun while they learn, grow, and reach their full potential.
• 4-H Clubs – Join and participate! We offer Community Clubs, Project Clubs, After School Clubs, and Site-Based Clubs.
• County and State Fairs – Showcase skills and accomplishments of Minnesota youth.
• 4-H Adventures – Mini-blasts of fun. Try something new in a few hours, an afternoon, or a day.
• Fitness Frenzy – Collaboration between 4-H, Nutrition Education, and local schools.

Nutrition Education Programs
The Community Nutrition Educator delivers nutrition education and food budgeting lessons to low-income children, families and seniors. The Nutrition Education Program extends the educational resources of the University of Minnesota to help families learn how to obtain and sustain the skills needed to create healthy, self-sufficient lives. In collaboration with local, state, and federal agencies, the program helps youth and adults to find and make the best use of existing resources to solve the problems they face and satisfy their family’s needs. The Community Nutrition Educator offers classes in a wide variety of community settings, including schools, Head Start/Early Head Start, WIC clinics, after school programs, 4-H youth and parents, disabled adults, senior meal sites, and low-income housing. In addition, the Nutrition Education Assistant offers one-on-one, hands-on coaching, showing individuals and families how to plan and prepare meals on a limited budget.
